A Simple Date Change Sparks Outrage
On Wookiepedia, a simple date adjustment led to death threats. However, the administrators are not backing down.
For many years, Wookiepedia has been the go-to source for Star Wars fans seeking information about their distant galaxy. The portal is known for its reliability, up-to-date content, and well-maintained entries.
Ironically, these virtues have now resulted in the administrators of Wookiepedia facing vile comments, including death threats. However, there is now resistance: true Star Wars fans are coming to the defense of the lexicon.
A Birthdate Becomes a Controversy
So, what exactly happened? Here’s a brief explanation, but be warned, we have to spoil an important detail from Episode 4 of The Acolyte. Please continue reading only if you don’t mind spoilers or have already seen the episode.
In Episode 4, there is an unexpected guest appearance: Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi makes an appearance. Fans know the Cerean Jedi from the prequel trilogy. He met his end on Mygeeto when clone troopers shot him in the back as part of Order 66.
The Acolyte is set about 100 years before Episode 1, which is why many viewers are surprised that Ki-Adi-Mundi is already alive. In the so-called Expanded Universe of Star Wars, the Jedi Master was born around 40 years later – but since Disney’s acquisition, the EU is no longer canonical, so the series creators did not make a mistake here.
Wookiepedia was merely fulfilling its duty as a wiki. It removed the previously known birth entry on Ki-Adi-Mundi’s page. Subsequently, toxic fans showed their dark side on the internet.
